President George W. Bush admitted in an interview with US network ABC on Monday that "The biggest regret of all the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq."The intelligence failure he was referring to was the faulty evidence that accused Saddam Hussein's regime of possessing weapons of mass destruction, an accusation that was used as the official reason for the US administration's invasion of Iraq back in 2003.The admission comes a bit late: the invasion left more than half a million Iraqis killed and over 4000 American soldiers. And he spend $40 billion on home land security. But President Bush says he will leave the presidency with his head held high. In the interview he talked about the highs and lows of his eight years in office. And he acknowledged what the rest of the world already has taken for granted for quite some time: That he may have been unprepared for what happened under his rule.In this edition of Inside Story we ask if Bush's statements reflect any feelings of guilt and if he can be held accountable for launching a war under a false pretext?

TomMarAlem1987 Says:

Jan 9, 2009 - The Arabs don't need to be taken from "darkness to light" they don't need democracy. What are needed are jobs, stopping sanctions; then watch them thrive. Sanctions are a tool of war. People consider war to be the dropping of bombs or firing of bullets to be war. This kind is done with the finances. If you 'choke' the economy of the rival, you gain the advantage. Iraq was put under this, which caused it to suffer. Iran is going the same way.

conduit99 Says:

Jan 9, 2009 - Jack Burkman: Classic White Guy. That patronizing rhetoric like "darkness to light" and overall racist patronizing speech was EXACTLY what Europeans used to say to justify their actions during Colonialism. It's called the "White Man's Burden".

TaskiyahEmaani Says:

inexorableJmcle Says:

Jan 9, 2009 - (2)has cold-bloodedly killed more people than saddam could ever have. Israel has also used chemical weapons both in gaza and lebanon and it is the only country that incarcerates kids and have countless children in their dungeons; Talk about medieval mindsets

rocknjoel87 Says:

Jan 9, 2009 - This is below Al Jazeera's usual high standards. The fact that Al Jazeera would have such a crass, simplistic, arrogant and fatuous character as Mr. Berkman reflects very poorly on Al Jazeera. What would have made a good discussion and reflected well on the integrity, non-partiality and objectivity of Al Jazeera in reporting these matters would have been to have an actual expert defending the war in place of Berkman. Al Jazeera needs to be more careful of who it invites on it shows.

Alaji2443 Says:

Jan 9, 2009 - Jack Burkman is scary. He should never be allowed to speak on the airwaves. Who is this guy? He does not speak for the American people. We did not want Buch and his cohorts to envade Iraq. We knew it was for oil. Bush destoyed this country and he and his cohorts shoulf be tried for Crimes Against Humanity. Shame on Bush and all of those who think like him.

Edinaldo08 Says:

Jan 9, 2009 - It is about oil, of course, but the real question is: Why did Saddan thought that he could invade Kuait? I mean he was an experienced politician of the region. I really don't understand this. Anybody?
